News Story: Female Violation

Ever heard a male say that females deserve to get what they got. For example, some males believe that if a female is raped then she got what was coming whether it was from the way she dressed, acted, flirted, or any other EXCUSE given by any ignorant male. To me, ignorant is an understatement for the males who believe this. To hear a guy comment something like that is very repulsive and upsetting. Is this what our generation really believes? Is this what we think is okay? The inspiration and main focus of this blog post is female violation. I'm not just talking about rape. In fact, I prefer not to discuss rape just yet. I came across the Huffington Post about Iggy Azalea appearing on a radio show and letting us know that she is constantly being sexually violated by her fans. The article (link below) states that rapper, Iggy Azalea, has to put on two pairs of underwear, skin colored stockings, AND then her pants/jeans/shorts/whatever she is wearing that night at our concerts. Why I'm NOT a Feminist

As you have read in my previous post, I do not label myself as a feminist. The story behind this... I do not have one. I simply believe that I am not a feminist because I do not 100% fit into the definition of a feminist. According to Dictionary.com,  feminist: an advocate of social, political, legal, and economic rights for women to equal those to men.   By creating this blog, am I an advocate? Yes! However, I do not believe that women are fully equal to men (Keep in mind, this specific blog post is not factual but opinionated). I stand to this belief because I grew up in a traditional, Christian family and was raised to society's gender role expectations. I wore pink and fluffy annoying dresses and stockings. I was told that I could not play with males and was given dolls, princesses, and make-up, and even tea parties to play with. I was told to wash the dishes, sweep, and attempt to cook and told to allow my brother or my dad to take out the trash, wash the car, and do yard w

Blog Vision

To encourage individuality and independence from societal expectations of women. To influence creativity of multiple ideas. To inspire women to be who they want to be in order to fulfill their potential and happiness. To encourage higher self-esteem in the younger generation. To impact the indecisive views of identity and ensure these views of identity are influenced through other perspectives that may not have been heard or understood before. To empower not only women but all people to be who they are and strive to change societal views on how women should dress, speak, and act in the private and public sphere. Vision for Self To try my best to articulate my views in a respectful, unbias, and accurate way. To strive to improve vocabulary, knowledge, and perception of my views and opinions. To remain open and possibly more open-minded of other views and comments made through/on blog. To be consistent in creating new posts and blogs. To try my best to follow the above vision. To in

For starters...

Empowering the Mind and the Future Hello. I want to first start this blog by saying that I am a new to this blogging life. I also want to inform my viewers that this blog is for the empowerment of WOMEN, their minds, and the future that they {we} set forth in generations to come. I am a Women's Studies minor at Winthrop University and was inspired by my Intro to Women's Studies class and have a lot of ideas to contribute to the feminist movement. HOWEVER, I do not label myself a feminist... but that's another story for another time :) . I will blog based off past experiences of myself and others, what we view on Instagram, the media, and other forms of social media, and even present encounters I may have in my daily life. I hope to accurately report the things I view and try my best to look at things from all perspectives although it would mostly be from my own. I hope that my ideas and views inspire others to take a stand in the feminist movement or any movement at all.
