Feminism on the Rise

Long time, no see! Sorry, I have been busy with work and school and such. I had no time to post in awhile. Lately, I have been noticing how often women's rights and equality and minority talks have been coming about. I must say that I am proud of the women who stand together and fight discrimination against women. More and more I hear someone claim that they are feminist. I love it!! I even admitted myself. I AM A FEMINIST!   Why? Because I fight for women's rights!  It took me a minute to realize it. There's no such thing as a nonfeminist feminist. Either you stand up for women's rights or not. It's that simple. If you choose not to let any one or MAN talk down to you or make you feel lower than who you are, you are a Feminist. If you correct someone for not taking into account other characteristics of a human besides the fact that they are a woman and not allow others to use that as an excuse, you are a Feminist. If you stop apologizing for being yourself, a

Stay enCOURAGEd

I cannot FATHOM how hard it is for me to say this because of everything I am going through myself. And by the way, I do apologize for not posting anything in awhile but... You watch the news, you see the world today, it's hard for everyone to remain POSITIVE but I have come to post today (or tonight, I should say) to enCOURAGE yourself. Courage:   n. the strength to face difficulty, danger, pain, etc. without fear.  You must have be encouraged to have Courage! Do not be scared or fear what's going on in the world or in your life. STAY ENCOURAGED and trust and believe that God is going to make it better. Things may not be going right for the moment but God will work them out for your better everytime! Encourage: v. to inspire with courage, spirit or hope. Religious or not, I hope that you can say this prayer with me and firmly believe in it: "Dear God, I pray for your magnificent people who have accepted Christ into their hearts. I pray for those who may not

Quick Inspiration

Image
So I'm a firm believer that any little thing could inspire someone. I just posted a picture on my Instagram (@AyeMmCee) and decided that this would be the perfect opener to my next blog post that I am currently working on. My caption said: "Who said kissy face, peace signs, and filters were out of style? Was it the same person who said 'Be Yourself'??" Of course, I'm being myself and being original in this picture (which does not get a lot of likes in today's society especially by my peers which is fine). Social media is another way to "Step out" from the norm. Those who really thought about my caption and have read my blogs may assume that the "who" in my caption is society. You are correct to assume that. Fortunately, I recognize this battle of societal views versus my own personal views and decide to (of course) go against society. I am okay with the term "rebel" but with being a rebel comes the rebel mindset. I hav

Something Missing

Filling a Void It's hard to imagine a life where you have an absent parent in your life either from death or abandonment. Or should I say it's hard for those of us who are not missing a parent in our lives but there are those who do live such a life like this. Some children cannot picture having a daddy coming home from work, helping them with homework, and tucking them into bed. Some children cannot picture having a mommy cooking them meals, cleaning their house, and singing them lullabies. However, majority of us are adults now and can't go a week without hearing your mother's or father's voice telling you that everything is going to be okay no matter how crazy the world gets and that you are still going to be their child that they will love forever. If you are one of the ones that still have both parents... like me... you are PRIVILEGED. Here's why. The New Sarah Baartman: It's a Man's World

Image
This post is inspired by  Black Supremacy Love N Unity   It's been a long time coming! I would have liked to do some more research on this story but I did not get around to do so. But if you have not viewed the video (also posted on my Facebook) awhile ago, here is a brief description on who Sarah "Saartijie" Baartman a.k.a. Venus Hottentote. Sarah was a slave from Africa who's body was exploited and exhibited to Europe and given the label as a freak. She was the guinea pig to European research about black female sexuality and anatomy. Seen as profitable to her exhibitors and slave to abolitionists, Sarah lived her life with the label of a freak. For why? Because she was black, a female, and because of her body.    But I did not make this post about Sarah. No. I made this posts about the new Sarahs, the Sarahs living today.     And pictures, just like these and more,  are displayed everywhere: in the media, on social networking sites such as Fac

Dear Society- New Movie Coming Out this Fall

Dear White People Since I did say in the beginning that I am borderline Black Feminist and nonfeminist, I present to you a movie trailer for a movie I'm encouraging all to see. More than likely I am going to see it when it comes out and therefore... Blog Post coming soon!

G I R L Review

Pharrell Williams- "G I R L" Album Review "Dear Girl" by Pharrell expresses his appreciation for women in our society. He made this album for us to dance and to enjoy life and I think he accomplished that in his music. Top 4 Songs (My Favorites To Me): #4 Come Get It Bae I love love LOVE the video. Yes, it has Miley Cyrus in it (which is a different story in itself) but the "models" or the girls in this video are just like you and me. They dance, they look like they are having soooo much fun, and they look just like you and me, regular people. #3 Marilyn Monroe I love the music to this and the song is named after a beauty celeb that girls look up to. Another song that makes you feel good inside and you can sing and dance along to in the mirror or in the shower. Just having fun to yourself! #2 Brand New Honestly, I love this song because of Justin Timberlake. If you did not know that it was Justin doing a duet with Pharrell, you reall

She's Beautiful: A Challenge

So there are multiple challenges that have been coming up lately. There's been a "Ice Water Challenge", a "Gospel Challenge", and a "Grown & Sexy Challenge". However, most of these challenges are for Facebook; you have to tag a friend to participate. I'm starting a new daily challenge that will build self-esteem in places it's needed. You ready... I challenge you to                                 TELL A YOUNG GIRL SHE'S BEAUTIFUL. You heard {in this case, saw} what I said. I want to challenge everyone to tell a young girl she is beautiful... Not just any young girl but I challenge you to tell a young BLACK girl she's beautiful. Want to know why? Background Story/Idea I was at work today and I saw the cutest little girl who had a bow to match her dress perfectly. She had her hair in the cutest and neatest ponytail and had adorable bright eyes that gleamed from the distance. Don't all precious little girls have that?

Fashion Police: It's Crystal CLEAR

Image
This post is inspired by Rihanna's crystal outfit at the CFDA Fashion Awards and  Huffington Post  article Discussion Occurring People have multiple opinions and views on Rihanna's choice of fashion. Some say that she is a fashion icon (just as she was awarded) and she is beautiful in this dress (which I agree). Majority of people are saying "Why did she even bother wearing anything" and "She didn't even leave anything for the imagination". Some are even calling her names such as a whore, slut, hoe, etc. for even wearing the dress. What's your opinion? Are you one to say she's classless or genius? Is she opening the doors of fashion and taking it to new heights or is she taking "fashion" too far? I have a response to each of these. Against Her Choice Although her dress is unforgettable and uniquely made (over 200,000 crystals to be exact), she is revealing too much. Fortunately, she decided to wear nude colored underwear bu

News Story: Female Violation

Ever heard a male say that females deserve to get what they got. For example, some males believe that if a female is raped then she got what was coming whether it was from the way she dressed, acted, flirted, or any other EXCUSE given by any ignorant male. To me, ignorant is an understatement for the males who believe this. To hear a guy comment something like that is very repulsive and upsetting. Is this what our generation really believes? Is this what we think is okay? The inspiration and main focus of this blog post is female violation. I'm not just talking about rape. In fact, I prefer not to discuss rape just yet. I came across the Huffington Post about Iggy Azalea appearing on a radio show and letting us know that she is constantly being sexually violated by her fans. The article (link below) states that rapper, Iggy Azalea, has to put on two pairs of underwear, skin colored stockings, AND then her pants/jeans/shorts/whatever she is wearing that night at our concerts. She

Why I'm NOT a Feminist

As you have read in my previous post, I do not label myself as a feminist. The story behind this... I do not have one. I simply believe that I am not a feminist because I do not 100% fit into the definition of a feminist. According to Dictionary.com,  feminist: an advocate of social, political, legal, and economic rights for women to equal those to men.   By creating this blog, am I an advocate? Yes! However, I do not believe that women are fully equal to men (Keep in mind, this specific blog post is not factual but opinionated). I stand to this belief because I grew up in a traditional, Christian family and was raised to society's gender role expectations. I wore pink and fluffy annoying dresses and stockings. I was told that I could not play with males and was given dolls, princesses, and make-up, and even tea parties to play with. I was told to wash the dishes, sweep, and attempt to cook and told to allow my brother or my dad to take out the trash, wash the car, and do yard w

Blog Vision

To encourage individuality and independence from societal expectations of women. To influence creativity of multiple ideas. To inspire women to be who they want to be in order to fulfill their potential and happiness. To encourage higher self-esteem in the younger generation. To impact the indecisive views of identity and ensure these views of identity are influenced through other perspectives that may not have been heard or understood before. To empower not only women but all people to be who they are and strive to change societal views on how women should dress, speak, and act in the private and public sphere. Vision for Self To try my best to articulate my views in a respectful, unbias, and accurate way. To strive to improve vocabulary, knowledge, and perception of my views and opinions. To remain open and possibly more open-minded of other views and comments made through/on blog. To be consistent in creating new posts and blogs. To try my best to follow the above vision. To in

For starters...

Empowering the Mind and the Future Hello. I want to first start this blog by saying that I am a new to this blogging life. I also want to inform my viewers that this blog is for the empowerment of WOMEN, their minds, and the future that they {we} set forth in generations to come. I am a Women's Studies minor at Winthrop University and was inspired by my Intro to Women's Studies class and have a lot of ideas to contribute to the feminist movement. HOWEVER, I do not label myself a feminist... but that's another story for another time :) . I will blog based off past experiences of myself and others, what we view on Instagram, the media, and other forms of social media, and even present encounters I may have in my daily life. I hope to accurately report the things I view and try my best to look at things from all perspectives although it would mostly be from my own. I hope that my ideas and views inspire others to take a stand in the feminist movement or any movement at all.
