Growing Up Black & Female

As I look around and observe the many different types of women I realize that race does have an effect on how we are raised. I can only speak as a black female  and for myself because I know everyone is raised differently. And this is not to generalize that black females all raise the same but we do have similar traits and characteristics that deal with how we are raised by her mothers who are also black and female.  Now please understand that I do know that this is a controversial subject and know that some people will not understand and that some people may not agree but once again this is my blog of my observations. Even my experience.  Black women are raised differently than any type of women especially white women. We are told that we have to be independent and hold on and not to count on any man. {Remember this is not to say that white women are raised to think that} but black women especially our race to be strong and to not rely on anybody else but themselves. That's why

The Power of the #Selfie Stick

IS THERE POWER IN A SELFIE STICK?!?!?                                                                                      Yes!! There is power in the Selfie Stick! When I first got a Selfie Stick this past Christmas I was excited! It was not as popular as it once was but it began getting mainstream again around the time I got mine. EVERYONE was on their social media pages saying they received a new Selfie Stick... myself included! My new toy helped me discover a newfound confidence I forgot I had! Here's why: I'm an ambivert! Sometimes outgoing and sometimes shy meaning I do NOT ask people to take my picture. I know, I know... and I wear the cutest of slaying outfits but I am too shy to ask other people to take a head to toe photo of me. Even I get self-conscious when posing for pictures that others are taking for me but it's mostly because I am conditioned to do it too! I don't mind taking pictures for other people and I have been condition

The Criticism of Beyonce's Sarah Baartman Biopic

Image
If you have read my previous post " Having Dinner with Beyonce ", you'll know that I am not the BIGGEST Beyonce fan/supporter. I do listen to her music and enjoy the fact that it causes young women to flip into their alternate ego and have a fierce display of confidence, etc. HOWEVER, I question and continue to question her relation to the Feminist Movement of Today and her personal efforts of empowering young women in our society. News has come out recently stating that she plans on writing a screenplay about Sarah "Saartjie" Baartman, an African slave who was captured and enslaved into a circus with the label of a "freak" because of her large breasts and buttocks. Beyonce not only plans on writing Sarah's biopic but also plans on starring in it. Some people are excited that this is an opportunity for Beyonce to show her true side of acting and take her acting career seriously. Others are very disappointed and not supportive of the idea and

Where You At? Purpose Check

Image
Warning: this blog post is very cut-throat and direct... It's meant to be. Have you ever thought or reflected on the big question of "What is the purpose of Life?" Typically, the response is for us, as human beings, to find our calling and purpose on this Earth. Well, that answer may be hard to find especially because there are so many things you can set your affection, focus, and goals on to find your purpose. I have news for you! The only way you can find your purpose is through knowing Christ Jesus! "Oh, here we go. Another biblical post/message from Ayana." Yeah, oh well! I know A LOT... A LOT of people who are still stuck in this world trying to figure out who they are and the path they need to take. They say they are "damaged" or "broken" (post on this coming soon) and wonder what is their purpose or their calling is in their life but do not think to find their answer by seeking God. The Bible says "Seek Him first

The Re-Discovery of My Lost Love (Poem by yours truly)

"Sitting in awe because I realized what I've been missing. They say you never know what you got until it's gone and I see that you've been neglected by me. As I sit in  your presence, I miss the feelings you gave me; caused my heart to skip a beat. I missed leaning against your hard body, strumming my thumbs against your chest,  singing loudly and proudly as I enjoyed making crazy noises with you. We made beautiful music together, just me and you with no one else around. You brought tears to my eyes, something I cannot explain. No one makes me feel the way you do; our hearts beat as one. I have so much in me ready to let out but words can't  explain, words can't come out of my mouth. I was lost without you. We can  change the world together because you have changed my world. You're the only one God has brought in the light and shown me crystal clear as day, as it is night. He made you 'specially for me when he crafted you. And n
