Fortunately, I believe this person does not speak for 90% of America (guesstimates since, clearly, that's all that this person above did!).
When I first read this, I was so appalled but then I had to take a step back and realize that Black women will always have haters. When I read The Black Feminist Thought by Patricia Hill-Collins (check it out here), I admired that she tackled every single issue that we, black women, face including the relationships we have with other members in the racial binary meaning between only whites and blacks. She dissected the reasons white women don't get along with us, why white men use us, and why black men don't support us. Her theories and implications hold true. However, the person here is not a sociologist or even a researcher like Patricia Hill-Collins is.
The fact that they, one, think this is okay to post or, moreover, believe! Two, someone is so dumb and ignorant repost this to my Timeline (or maybe it was someone who reposted it to stir up this anger in me because it did the same to them). Three, stated nothing factual beside the fact that stereotypes help shape racist ideas and therefore perpetuate the cycle of learning racism only baffles me but then I began to wonder...
Question: Did we really fail America?
They call us bitter, angry, fake, uneducated, and jezebels but after viewing and evaluating what I see in media and tv, I can see why someone would believe that these stereotypes are close to true (although extremely overexaggerated). We have to stand together and cause change in how society views us. That means changing how we talk and treat each other on Real Housewives of where ever, or when someone's boyfriend jumps from female to female that these women do not fight each other, or even when we go out in public with bonnets on our heads that we don't judge or tease her because I'm sure there are times where we all have done this...maybe, but you get the point. It is important that we, as black women, stand up for one another because we have no one else in our societal groups that will stand up for or defend us if we consistently prove society to be right about us.
We have a lot in common and it's sad that we cannot put our differences aside to come together and agree to get rid of some negative implications of our actions. We, as black women, already have two strikes against us for being black and female. Even in our own community, we must combat colorism and the ideologies that light skin women (people in general) are better and prettier than those with a darker complexion. We have so many issues to tackle in both communities that we cannot continue to find ourselves constantly worried about the next woman and talking down about her or competing with her. When will we realize that if we don't stand together, who else will? Yes, not all white people bash black women and not all black men think black women are bitter, etc. but it is important that as a group with more similarities than differences stand as one and uplift and empower one another.
