"Defying All Odds" Protest Reflections

Image
This past weekend, some fellow Winthrop students, affiliates and I made signs for the "Defying All Odds" Black Lives Matter protest. This was NOT my first protest or march for racial injustices in this country. However, this was different than anything I had done before.  The protest was organized by 5 inspirational, young individuals from all over the Charlotte area who felt like something needed to be done to make everyone come together on one accord. The Black Lives Matter protests recently were sparked by the deaths of two unarmed Black men a couple of weeks ago. After their deaths, social media, as well as our thoughts about law enforcement, went into chaos. People were angry, frustrated, and most of all exhausted. I felt all those emotions as well; I was tired of talking PERIOD and definitely done arguing with #ALL LIVES MATTER critics. This protest and protests all over the country are great ways to feel like you are a part of a bigger cause and feel that you

A Step to Change-- Action required!

Hi,  I, as well as countless Americans, feel as though police officers and sheriffs need to be held MORE accountable for their actions and force used in EVERY arrest, case, traffic stop, etc. to ensure that their jobs of protecting Americans are fulfilled. We need to feel safer with the sight and presence of police officers than feeling more in danger with them.  That's why I created a petition to The South Carolina State House, The South Carolina State Senate, Governor Nikki R. Haley, The United States House of Representatives, The United States Senate, and President Barack Obama, which says: "Please sign this petition for the United States government to REQUIRE Public Safety committees in every county, city, and or state in order to hold police departments and officers accountable for their actions and accusations against them. Including but not limited to the following: reviewing any cases against an officer for racial profiling, reviewing complaints and legal investigation

The DIVIDED States We Stand...

Please note that this post was typed out of anger and frustration. That's how I want to express it and that's how it'll remain. All over Facebook with the current events of Alton Sterling, Philando Castile, and many more people, blacks and whites, who have been shot and killed by police lately, I see anger, people in fear, and so much more. Most of all, I see broken hearts. We live in an American society where this country, supposed to be built and made for the freedoms and liberties of all people, do not align with it's morals and standards it has set up and made us to believe. It was ideal, it sounded good, and it'll help one accomplish "the American Dream". In reality, it continues to contradict these morals, values, and standards they promised its people. In reality, these freedoms and liberties were granted to a certain few, the superior or elites. I see some of my white counterparts posting things like "they want us to be divided"

"Ima Be Single 4 LYfe"

Welcome to Part 4 of my blog series "Single for LYfe"! For a reminder, the "LYfe" is spelled like that for a reason (also in this case, using the "4" instead of "for"). It stands for Love Yourself which is an underlying message in not only this blog series but my blog in general. If at any point my blogs do not reflect that message, please "Contact Me" below and let me know. Anyway... Background I realized a common theme in my conversations with other {older} women. Recently, I heard a familiar complaint from a customer at my job regarding her current boyfriend. She informed me that she was Father's Day shopping for her boyfriend who was a "Mama's Boy" because he was an only child and also a father. The way she was quickly traveling throughout the store and how she stopped me with urgency, I thought there would not be time for such small talk or venting... I was wrong to assume that and she continued to vent to
